Letter: Under GOP, rich get richer

The Republicans never give up in their relentless pursuit to make the rich richer. Not content with already giving the wealthy a huge tax cut, they are using the economic crunch and the terrorist threat to sneak through more bucks for the wealthy.

Legislation now moving through Congress is loaded with pro-rich benefits.

The tax cut for the rich is accelerated; the capital gains tax is cut; corporations are given breaks (the tax cut increases a corporation's profits, which benefits its rich shareholders). This benefits the nation's richest while the poor, as Dick Gephardt explained, are getting "crumbs."

The unemployed and those needing health care deserve help. A good way to achieve this is to cut the pro-rich tax cut entirely and use the funds to help those in economic straits.
