Letter: Layoff is no reason to cry
Monday, Nov. 5, 2001 | 9:01 a.m.
On Oct. 28 letter writer Steve Gentili wrote in to complain about all the attention that the people of New York are getting, and that he is "tired" of seeing and hearing about all of the money they are receiving as a result of this catastrophe.
Apparently he feels that he should get a piece of the action because he was laid off. I find it incredible that he would compare layoffs to the horrific tragedy that has befallen the people of New York. Well boo-hoo ... cry me a river!
My husband and I are a one-income family. He is in construction and gets laid off several times a year. We have never had anyone knock on our door offering assistance with our bills. We are always prepared for the possibility of a layoff. It's called savings!
No one is guaranteed a job in this life and everyone should be prepared for the possibility of unemployment. Get with the program, Steve. Take care of your own business and quit looking for handouts.
