LV carrier adding three flights

Friday, Nov. 2, 2001 | 10:33 a.m.

Hoping to capitalize on United Airlines' reduction of service in three markets, Las Vegas-based National Airlines announced today that it would add round-trip flights between Las Vegas and Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The bankrupt company said the new service would begin Dec. 21 and bring the total number of flights to Chicago's O'Hare International Airport to three and the number of flights to Los Angeles and San Francisco to seven each.

The company currently operates 15 Boeing 757 jets on a 13-plane schedule using two for spares. To add the service, National will use 14 of the planes and have one spare.

The flight additions will enable the company to recall about a quarter of the 270 employees who were laid off in a 20 percent reduction that occurred after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
