A recent "Dateline" concerned the drug Ecstasy, which is very popular with teens and college students. A group of students made the drug with information found on the World Wide Web, buying chemicals from a business owner who himself had a record for manufacturing Ecstasy.
The cop summed it up in the final interview. Asked if the arrest of seven people would impact the supply of the drug, he said, "No, probably not, but it will impact those seven kids."
Nice epitaph for the drug war -- no impact on drug supply or drug use, but many individual lives "impacted," i.e., ruined!
