Goodman might become gin pitchman

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman's love for Beefeater London Distilled Dry Gin could lead to him become a corporate pitchman for the drink.

Goodman, who jokes about downing Beefeater martinis starting at 5 p.m. each day, said he was approached last week by executives from the distillery and was asked to become a promoter.

Goodman said any ad campaign would have to generate at least $100,000 and all proceeds would go to the city as a way to make up for a loss of revenue due to the slumping economy. The mayor's role would include participating in the company's advertising, making public appearances and other media spots to endorse the gin.

Goodman said during his weekly press conference Thursday that he wasn't worried about the public's perception if he decides to become the drink's pitchman.
