Male Athlete of the Week: JAMALO ADEM
School: Clark
Class: Senior
Sport: Cross country
Last week: The native of Ethiopia finished first at the Sunset Regional Championship meet at Veteran's Park in Boulder City with a time of 17:08. As a team, Clark finished first to qualify for the upcoming state meet. "He works very hard and doesn't like to be behind anybody," Clark coach Paul Zwintscher said. "He's very easy to work with because he knows where he wants to go and what he has to do to reach those goals. He wanted to be the best he could as a senior because he knew he would be representing our school and the state of Nevada in outside meets."
Female Athlete of the Week: NATASHA WICKS
Class: Junior
School: Cimarron-Memorial
Sport: Cross Country
Last week: Wicks shaved six seconds off her personal record on the Veteran's Park course in Boulder City and finished with the best time at the Sunset Regional Championships at 19:58. Wicks helped the Cimarron girls to a third place finish to qualify for the upcoming state meet. Cimarron coach Tim Jeffries said that Wicks, who also participated in track last spring, trained hard and ran races all summer. "She's a very hard worker," Jeffries said. "She has a great work ethic and worked hard over the summer to get better. She's just a pleasant student-athlete to be around."
