Las Vegas area fishing report: Striped bass improving for Lake Mead anglers

Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001 | 10:38 a.m.

NEVADA DIVISION OF WILDLIFE

Striped bass fishing has shown some signs of improvement at Lake Mead in recent days with the fish starting to move toward shore and coming within range of bank anglers. Even so, the overall success for boaters and shore anglers continues to be somewhat slow.

Anglers reported to the Nevada Division of Wildlife that stripers were breaking the surface around the fishing pier at Hemenway Harbor early Tuesday morning. Several shore anglers managed to catch fish by casting Sassy Shad lures.

The better action for stripers in the Boulder Basin has been coming from open water between Pyramid Island and the Hemenway Wall. Stripers have also been caught recently around Boxcar Cove.

Last week a fortunate angler managed to catch a 36-pound striper at Rogers Bay in the Overton Arm. Stripers weighing around two pounds and channel catfish are being caught in the Virgin Bowl.

Several crappie were caught over the weekend by a boater who was fishing in brush in the Muddy River.

Rainbow trout were stocked Wednesday at Powerline Cove. Trout were stocked today below Hoover Dam and at Placer Cove.
