Homeowners need to vote
Thursday, May 31, 2001 | 8:42 a.m.
Our city fathers in Henderson are telling us that public safety is top priority. I agree, but why wasn't it their top priority in the past? They have had an annual budget close to $300 million and have ignored public safety in the past.
They instead choose to spend millions of dollars on extravagant city buildings, city redevelopment, street beautification, top-of-the-line extravagant vehicles for city employees, and millions and millions on other public works projects that could have waited if they really thought that the public safety was top priority. Now they're asking the homeowners to cover for their mistakes by raising our taxes to pay for additional public safety.
The problem I see with this is a whole lot of people in Henderson are not homeowners and will probably vote for Public Safety Question 1. Why wouldn't they, it won't cost them a dime.
This seems really unfair and I urge all homeowners to get out and vote no on Question 1.
