MASH tries to keep crisis center open

Wednesday, May 30, 2001 | 9:34 a.m.

MASH Village has raised a sliver of the funds necessary to continue operating the Crisis Intervention Center for another year, but representatives say the deadline to raise the remaining money is now flexible.

Hannah Johnston, a spokeswoman for MASH Village, said the center won't necessarily shut down June 30, as was previously stated. The shelter is determining how much money needs to be raised to operate the center, and a closure date will be set once exact amounts are determined, she said.

MASH Village representatives had said the shelter must raise $500,000 to operate the center for another year or it would close June 30.

The Crisis Intervention Center provides immediate services through public and private agencies under one roof. The center also provides the homeless with career counseling and a telephone bank for contacting potential employers.
