Rules to be set for ‘wrapped’ cabs

The Nevada Taxicab Authority will conduct hearings next month to develop rules for allowing "wrapped" advertising on taxis.
The board, acting on a request from Eller Taxi Media, said the new rules would outline how advertising can be placed on a taxi's hood and doors. "Wrapped" advertising is similar to vinyl ads wrapped around some buses in the Citizens Area Transit fleet in Las Vegas.
Tony Preus, vice president of Eller Taxi Media in Las Vegas, said his company traditionally develops contracts and shares ad revenues with taxi companies on taxi tops and trunks. He said ad prices for wrapped cabs haven't been determined for Las Vegas.
He said under the Eller proposal, a limited number of cabs would be used for wrapped ads.
State rules prohibit using the wraps over windows, even though persons inside a vehicle can see through the material.
