Two armed men hit restaurant

Henderson Police are looking for three men suspected of robbing a restaurant early Monday morning.

Police said two men demanded money from employees at Carrabba's Restaurant, 10160 S. Eastern Ave., about 9:30 a.m. One of the men was armed with a handgun, and another had some kind of stick, police said. The restaurant was not yet open for business.

The suspects left the restaurant with an undisclosed amount of money in a mid-90s model Toyota Corolla, driven by a third man, police said.

One man is described as black or Hispanic, in his 20s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 250 pounds. He had a bald or shaved head and was armed with a dark colored semiautomatic handgun.

The other robber is described as Hispanic, in his 20s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and 180 pounds. He has short dark hair, and was armed with some kind of stick or club.

Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to call police at 565-8933 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.

Car drives onto sidewalk

An 87-year-old pedestrian was killed Sunday when the driver of a car apparently lost control and drove onto a sidewalk, hitting the Las Vegas man.

The accident happened about 10:45 a.m. on Arthur Street southeast of the intersection of Owens and Eastern avenues, Metro Police said.

Faustino Palomar was taken to University Medical Center, where he died.

A Ford Crown Victoria veered into a block wall and continued up the sidewalk, hitting Palomar and then two parked cars, police said.

Isidro Rubio, 19, was arrested and charged with reckless driving involving a death, police said.

Former baseball coach sentenced

A former youth baseball coach convicted in March on 39 sexual assault and lewdness counts was sentenced to life in prison Friday with parole possible only after 160 years.

District Judge Michael Cherry sentenced Garen Pearson, 42, after listening to the parents of several of his young victims and two of his victims describe the impact his crimes have had on their lives.

Pearson had originally entered a plea agreement in which he would have been eligible for parole after 20 years.
