Regents could name new CCSN president earlier than expected

The Board of Regents could name a new Community College of Southern Nevada president earlier than expected, as it plans to have the two remaining candidates meet with the full board during a special meeting.
An ad hoc search committee chose Jack Daniels III for the presidency, but he rejected the offer because he questioned the board's unity.
The six-member search committee then planned to meet on June 8, in time to offer a new recommendation to the 11-member Board of Regents, which was scheduled to meet on June 14.
That plan was changed after two regents recommended that, in an attempt to accelerate the process, all regents and candidates meet together.
"We would hope that this will result in a hire that very day," said Jane Nichols, Nevada's higher education chancellor.
The remaining candidates are Mary Spangler, president of the Los Angeles City College, and Ron OnRemington, president of Great Basin Community College.
The community college system's general counsel is investigating an alleged violation of the Open Meeting Law involving the board's search committee, Nichols said.
Regent Mark Alden has alleged that deliberations by a Board of Regents' committee in regard to the presidential search should not have been held in closed-session.
