Walk, run, jog for Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society will hold its annual Relay for Life from 6 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Saturday at O'Callaghan Park, 601 Sky Line Road in Henderson.

Teams of 10 to 15 may still register to walk, run, jog and even push baby strollers around the track for 12 hours. Cancer survivors of all ages are invited to walk the first lap around the track, the Victory Lap.

The community is invited to participate in a Luminaria (candle lighting ceremony) at 9 p.m. Friday to remember those who lost their lives to cancer and to honor survivors.

All of the funds raised from the Relay for Life will assist the American Cancer Society in providing research, education, advocacy and a variety of patient services to the community. For more information, to register or volunteer your time at the Relay For Life, call 798-6877 or (800) ACS-2345.

YMCA to celebrate 150th anniversary

The YMCA will host the World's Largest Run to celebrate its 150th anniversary in the United States.

As many as 1,300 facilities in 700 cities will be hosting a unified 5K run and fun walk with the hopes of making the Guinness Book of world Records. Proceeds from the event will benefit program in the Las Vegas area.

Get in the swim with city of Las Vegas

To kick off the season, the city of Las Vegas will host a beginning-of-summer pool party 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the Northwest Leisure Services Center, 3521 N. Durango Drive.

The party is free to residents and will feature an afternoon barbecue, pool activities, music along with other activities and games.

Walk-A-Thon will be held Saturday

The 13th annual Walk-A-Thon 5K will begin with registration at 7 a.m. Saturday at Del Webb Sun City Anthem, benefitting Habitat for Humanity and HELP of Southern Nevada.

The $25 registration fee covers continental breakfast, T-shirt, raffle ticket and demonstrations by Metro Police's canine division.
