Beach party takes over Water Street
The Water Street Beach Party, featuring Jan and Dean and the Surfaris, will turn Henderson's Water Street into virtual beachfront property Saturday.
The event will run noon-8 p.m. at the corner of Basic Road and Water Street.
Jan and Dean, whose hits include "Surf City," "Little Old Lady from Pasadena" and "Deadman's Curve," and the Surfaris, known for their hit "Wipeout," will headline a day of music that will also includelocal bands such as the Sun Dogs, Shije, Hurricanes and Mask.
Ticket purchase includes the all day concert and unlimited children's play area. Tickets can be purchased in advance from one of the Redevelopment Area business sponsors for only $1 per person or at the event for $3. Children under 10 are free. Food will be sold separately.
All beach lovers are encouraged to come early for choice beach spots. For more information, call 565-2181.
Rangers will host Memorial Day events
National Park Service rangers have scheduled two evening presentations for Memorial Day weekend set to begin at 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at Cottonwood Cove Marina near Searchlight.
"History At Hand" will be the topic of the program scheduled for Saturday. Within the boundaries of Lake Mead National Recreation Area are tantalizing clues to the past that help piece together the story of who we are, how we got here and what the future holds.
"So, What Can I Do Here?" will be the program scheduled for Sunday. With nearly 1,000 miles of shoreline, the name "Lake Mead National Recreation Area" conjures up an image of water recreation. This evening presentation will highlight the many things to see and do with the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

Henderson seniors plan Saturday program
An Oldies But Goodiesrummage sale will take place 8 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Henderson Seniors Center, 27 East Texas St.
The event is sponsored by the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department.
Henderson Senior Center staff members will also man a booth featuring donated items. Proceeds from the sale of these items will directly benefit the center for its recreational activities and meal programs.
Donations for the booth are welcome and may be dropped off at the Center in advance. For additional information, call 565-6990.
Three-part series at Greenspun Center
The Barbara Greenspun WomensCare Center of Excellence, sponsored by St. Rose Dominican Hospital will host a three-part series on alternative/complementary healing. The classes will be held 1:30-2:30 p.m. Thursday, June 28 and July 26 at the center, 100 N. Green Valley Parkway, Suite 330.
