Letter: Davis wrongly blames Bush
Tuesday, May 22, 2001 | 8:36 a.m.
At last, after 8 years of vacuous inaction, the U.S. energy program is being managed by people who know energy instead of Washington political hacks.
The "greens" have wrecked California by blocking energy facilities. California is suffering because of green nihilism and mismanagement, and it will take two years of desperate private-sector rescue action to fix it, using natural-gas fueled turbo generators. Wind and solar energy cannot take up the slack economically without large subsidies paid by the taxpayer. Coal and nuclear have long lead times.
Who is responsible? Not President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, whom California Gov. Gray Davis blames, because they were not around. Davis forced the largest utility into bankruptcy and put the others on the brink this year. He made the mess and damns the energy industry that will rescue California.
Gray: "Ain't" you and the "greens" ever heard of private enterprise?
