Letter: Forced into complacency

Regarding Patricia Keasing's May 13 letter, "No one bothered by area problems":
I'm all for building a new children's hospital when we know we can't staff it. This has been proven by the past couple of years of newspaper articles that we have a distinct shortage of nurses.
I'm all for a tax for library support when we can't provide books for our students in Clark County schools. This is especially true when the majority of raises go to administration.
I'm all for Proposition One in Henderson to build and staff more fire and police stations, especially when I know the increased tax will ensure retirees (especially individuals subsisting on Social Security) will then make the choice of whether to eat, have prescribed medications filled or pay the increased taxes.
I'm all for getting a rebate on federal taxes and paying it back to big oil companies for increased auto fuel prices. Funny, didn't Big Oil significantly fund our president's campaign and isn't he now unwilling to establish controls over them.
I'm all for the casinos refusing to turn off outside neon lighting, but raising the cost of rooms because of the electrical supply shortage. They need to raise their quarterly revenues, I guess.
In short I'm the complacent citizen of the area afraid to speak out of the shortcomings and reluctant to vote and have my voice heard. I guess "that'll show them."
