Several Las Vegas residents were honored Sunday during graduation ceremonies at the Community College of Southern Nevada.
Honorary associate of arts degrees were awarded to Sun Publisher Barbara Greenspun; A. Allan Stipe, president and chief executive of Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center; Hannah Brown, president of the Urban Chamber of Commerce; Joseph Buckley, past chairman of the CCSN President's Advisory Board and vice president of human resources for United Title of Nevada; and Clark County School Superintendent Carlos Garcia.
The five were among a list of Nevadans honored this month by the Board of Regents.
Three Las Vegans were named Distinguished Nevadans: Dr. Elias F. Ghanem, entertainer Wayne Newton and Dr. Anthony Saville.
Four honorary doctorates were bestowed at UNLV's graduation ceremony earlier this month to William Bennett, James R. Dickinson, Don Snyder and Emilie Wanderer.
Dr. Judith Chow of the Desert Research Institute was recognized with the Regents' Researcher award for her work at DRI and UNLV.
Other UNLV professors were honored by the regents: David Hickey was given the Creative Activity award and Marta Meana received the Regents' Teaching Award for outstanding instruction.
Two UNLV students, Kelli Jones and Cheryl Radeloff, received the Regents' Scholar Award for their academic achievements, leadership ability and service contributions.
