UNLV baseball falls in tournament

SAN DIEGO -- UNLV fell to New Mexico 5-2 in the second round of the Mountain West Conference Tournament at Tony Gwynn Stadium on Thursday night.
Jared Bonnell (4-7) took the loss for the Rebels, allowing five runs on six hits in seven innings.
The Lobos' Jeremy DeYapp (4-3) picked up the win, striking out eight in 8 2/3 innings. Jeff Perez closed the game to earn his seventh save.
For the Rebels, Brent Johnson and Trent Kitsch each went 2-for-4 in the game, and Brad Beasley belted his seventh home run.
UNLV's David Trujillo went 0-for-3, bringing his MWC record 29-game hitting streak to an end. He walked in his final at-bat.
UNLV was to face No. 1 seed BYU at 11 a.m. today. With a win, the Rebels would go on to face New Mexico at 7 p.m. today. A loss would eliminate the Rebels from the tournament.
BYU defeated Air Force 7-1 in the opening round of the conference tournament and lost 15-14 to Utah on Thursday.
