Newspaper sued over rent dispute

Friday, May 18, 2001 | 11:12 a.m.

Saxton Inc. sued a former tenant, Las Vegas Sun Inc. and its parent company, the Greenspun Corp., claiming they owe $66,000 for rent and other expenses for the newspaper's former office at 800 South Valley View Blvd.

The Las Vegas real estate developer also sued Brian Greenspun, president and editor of the Sun and head of Greenspun Corp., alleging he agreed to guarantee the Sun's lease obligations.

Saxton said in the Clark County District Court suit the defendants vacated the office on March 29, when the Sun moved to Henderson, but allegedly failed to pay $21,632 in rents due April 1.

Saxton, which said it is owed $4,473 in common area maintenance charges, late charges and interest charges, said the defendants also owed an outstanding $40,386 -- after it deducted a $15,452 security deposit -- for repairs it claims it was forced to make at the premises.

An attorney for the defendants declined comment on the dispute.
