April 19: Federal office bombed
Story: An explosion believed caused by a bomb shattered a downtown federal office building in Oklahoma City today, blowing out a huge chunk of the nine-story structure. At least 200 people were injured.
The 9 a.m. explosion at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building could be felt 30 miles away. Smoke streamed across the skyline and glass, bricks and other debris were spread.
June 28: U.S. shuttle slated to link up with Russia's Mir
Story: The U.S. shuttle Atlantis thundered into orbit toward a linkup with Russia's Mir space station, the most ambitious international space station venture for either country in two decades.
The shuttle will maneuver toward a 245-mile-high rendezvous with the Russian station early Thursday.
Oct. 3: Jury acquits O.J. of all charges
Story: O.J. Simpson was acquitted today of murdering his ex-wife and her friend, a suspense-filled climax to the courtroom saga that obsessed the nation.
With two words, "not guilty," the jury freed the fallen sports legend to try to rebuild a life thrown into disgrace.
Oct. 17: Thousands at D.C. march, take pledge for new start
Story: Louis Farrakhan upged black males at his Million Man March to return to their communities to do good work, to stop abusing their wives, to stop shooting each other and to stop abandoning their children.
Nov. 6: World remembers Rabin
Story: Israel buried its unique hero of war and peace today, laying to rest assassinated Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in a state funeral attended by an impressive array of world leaders.
