Letter: Casinos also must conserve
Friday, May 18, 2001 | 4:11 a.m.
It never ceases to amaze me how we locals are expected to do everything possible to conserve electricity. We who live here try to do this, many out of necessity, since we can't afford to do otherwise living on fixed incomes. But nothing is said about the amount of electricity being used on the Strip or downtown.
Why aren't the casinos asked to turn out some of their lights? Can you imagine the amount of homes even one casino could light and cool! Why is it so necessary for them to be using billions of bulbs? Are they afraid people won't come if it isn't lit quite so brightly? I don't think so since Las Vegas is already known throughout the world.
We locals are tired of being told to turn off our lights and raise our thermostats, and no one suggests that the Strip pitch in and do something about their lights and freezing casinos. Give us a break!
