Volleyball: Chaparral, Basic boys battle for state title

Southeast Division rivals Chaparral and Basic will play for the fourth time this season tonight, this time with the 4A State boys volleyball championship on the line.
The Wolves advanced with a 15-12, 11-15, 15-10, 15-4 win over Western in Tuesday's semifinals, getting 25 kills and six blocks from Shaun Muaina in the victory. Richard Espinoza had 11 kills and 10 blocks and Chris Stolworthy added 44 assists for Basic.
The Cowboys, who will host tonight's title match at 7, moved on to the finals with a 15-11, 11-15, 15-6, 15-11 triumph over Durango. Andy Wayerski dished out a whopping 73 assists for Chaparral which also got 22 kills and eight digs from Sindre Storvoll and 35 kills from David Garrard.
Mason Duff had 57 assists and Tyson Walker added 25 kills for the Trailblazers, who won last year's inaugural 4A state championship.
Chaparral swept both regular season meetings against Basic, and captured last week's Sunrise Region title with an 8-15, 15-9, 15-11, 15-11 win over the Wolves.
