Las Vegas attracts SHOT Show

Wednesday, May 16, 2001 | 10:54 a.m.

A convention of outdoors enthusiasts will return to Las Vegas for a two-year run after organizers rejected overtures from the longtime host, New Orleans.

The Shooting Hunting Outdoor Trade Show, sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, will occur in Las Vegas in February 2002 and return in 2004. The SHOT Show is expected to attract 35,000 people to the city.

The show was quickly moved to Las Vegas last year after New Orleans Mayor Marc Morial filed a lawsuit against the gun industry in October 1998. The suit has since been thrown out of court, but SHOT Show organizers said attendance was off when the show returned to New Orleans in 2001.

The 2003 show is scheduled in Orlando, Fla.
