American to surrender TWA gate at McCarran

Wednesday, May 16, 2001 | 10:54 a.m.

American Airlines will give up the single gate operated by TWA Airlines at McCarran International Airport following its takeover of the St. Louis airline, an American spokesman said.

Spokesman Tim Kincaid said the McCarran gate is one of 50 TWA gates across the country that American will not use. TWA currently operates five daily non-stop flights between Las Vegas and St. Louis.

However, Kincaid said there are no plans to cut those flights after the TWA buyout. The flights will simply be moved to American's four existing gates at McCarran, he said, though he said it isn't yet known exactly when the McCarran TWA gate will be closed. American plans to get rid of the TWA brand within several years.

American currently operates 24 daily flights from McCarran, serving Chicago, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Los Angeles and San Jose, Calif.
