Letter: Find a way to keep shelter open
Wednesday, May 9, 2001 | 9:18 a.m.
It is sad that MASH Village of Las Vegas is not going to be in operation anymore, and will possibly close within 10 days. The center, which was originally started by our past dedicated mayor, Jan Laverty Jones, has provided health care and other services, and given housing to the needy and homeless people.
I wonder what these homeless people are going to do now. MASH Village might not be a perfect shelter, but it has given much hope to many needy people. I really admire the Rev. Joe Carroll for assisting the homeless of this city.
A recent television news poll said 85 percent of the people are for keeping this center open. That is a high percentage. MASH Village is doing an admirable job, even though it is not living up to Mayor Oscar Goodman's expectations.
My hope is MASH Village will stay open.
