LV woman sues Channel 3

A Las Vegas woman who was sexually assaulted by a Marine is suing a local TV station.

According to the lawsuit, filed Tuesday in District Court, KVBC-TV Channel 3 aired her testimony and name during the October 2000 trial despite District Judge Kathy Hardcastle's order not to.

As a result, the 32-year-old mother of three claims her reputation has suffered; she is feeling emotional distress; she has incurred medical expenses and has suffered from a loss of income.

The actions of the station, the woman alleges, were grossly negligent and/or willful, wanton and reckless.

She is seeking unspecified damages.

Raymond Flores, the first person to ever be tried in Clark County for allegedly using a date rape drug during a sexual assault, was sentenced to 10 to 25 years in prison in January.

A jury convicted him of one count of sexual assault and acquitted him on another.

Flores, 22, was temporarily stationed at Nellis Air Force base at the time of the incident.

Judge refuses to nix lawsuit

District Judge James Mahan refused Tuesday to dismiss a lawsuit filed by a former Nevada attorney general's office investigator against Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa.

Michael Anzalone, the former investigator, filed a wrongful dismissal lawsuit against Del Papa and others in her office two years ago. He alleges he was forced to resign after refusing to investigate former state Gaming Control Board Chairman Bill Bible. Del Papa is being sued as an individual and in her official capacity

Del Papa sought to have the lawsuit dismissed, saying there was no merit to it.

Mahan, however, ruled that a jury will make the final decision in the case.

The trial is set for July 10.
