Camp can be positive experience for abused youth
Wednesday, May 9, 2001 | 8:21 a.m.
A local director of a program for abused and neglected children wants to be able to help those youth go to camp.
But the program director needs help to send the kids she works with to camp this summer.
Camp would be an invaluable experience for children in this program, particularly because state statistics in cases of abuse, neglect, domestic violence and homeless rates are among the worst in the country.
The only glimmer of hope, the director adds, is generous support from the community to help children.
Sometimes simple things, such as toasting marshamallows and singing around the campfire with other children or spending time around camp counselors who are positive role models, are the memories a child carries with him through the rest of his life.
By joining contributors to the Las Vegas Sun Camp Fund you are making a difference in a child's life.
