Edmonton throttles 51s

EDMONTON, Alberta -- Just when you thought things couldn't get much worse for the sputtering Las Vegas 51s ...
Rick Sofield's squad, which returns home to open a four-game series with the Tucson Sidewinders tonight at 7 at Cashman Field, hit perhaps the lowest point of a season already surprisingly full of low points here on Monday night.
The 51s got whacked, 17-1, by the Edmonton Trappers at Telus Field.
How bad was it?
Ryan went 5-for-6 with two home runs and two doubles to tie the Edmonton team record for total bases in a game (13). He also drove in three runs and scored four more.
Las Vegas, which has now lost 11 of its last 13 games, scored its lone run in the fifth inning when shortstop Jeff Branson singled in right fielder Tony Mota.
Ex-Las Vegas Star Mike Oquist (2-3) allowed one run in six innings and struck out eight to pick up the victory for Edmonton.
