Contractor seeks damages

Monday, May 7, 2001 | 10:55 a.m.

A contractor that performed construction work on the Sunridge at MacDonald Ranch master-planned development in Henderson is suing Sunridge Development Co., the community's developer, claiming it is owed at least $5.8 million.

MMC Inc. said it was hired to build infrastructure at the 600-acre residential development, including sewers, water mains, sidewalks, street lights and paving. It claimed its original contract called for less than one year's work in 1994, at a total cost of $6.06 million -- but because of alleged numerous change orders and delays, its work was not completed until March 1998.

Delays were caused by 65 order changes, repeated work stoppages, delayed contract awards, construction scheduling conflicts and inaccurate area maps, MMC alleged.

Sunridge had 1,480 homes as of Jan. 1.

The defendants could not be reached for comment.
