Blood drives are this week
United Blood Services, 6930 W. Charleston Blvd., has scheduled blood drives. For more information, call Michelle Keanini at 228-8400. This week's schedule: Wednesday: 2:30-7:30 p.m. at Sunset East High School, 3801 E. Washington Ave., and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Sprint, 330 S. Valley View Blvd.; Thursday: 7 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at Silverado High School, 1650 E. Silver Hawk Ave.; Friday: 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Clark County Courthouse, 200 S. 3rd St., 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at American Medical Response, 1200 S. Martin Luther King Blvd., and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at Sallie Mae, 10550 W. Charleston Blvd.; Saturday: 7 a.m.-1:30 p.m. May 14 at Centennial High School, 10200 Centennial Parkway.
Salvation Army dinner, auction set
The Henderson Corps of the Salvation Army will hold its second annual "Thanksgiving in May" dinner and silent auction beginning 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Henderson Convention Center, 200 S. Water St.
Alice Martz, the executive director of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce, and Bill Ferrence, manager of the Boulder Dam Credit Union, will be honored for their positive community involvement.
Aside from the kettle drive during the holiday season, this event acts as the biggest fund-raiser for the Salvation Army, Henderson Corps. And it comes at an important time as demand rises in the summer for the Corps. The cost for the salute to Martz and Ferrence is $50 per seat. Call 565-9578 for tickets.
Public hearing slated for Tuesday
The Urban Chamber of Commerce's Blue Ribbon Committee on Race will hold its fourth and final public hearing on the status of race relations in the Las Vegas area at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North.
The committee expects to publish its findings as a comprehensive report by the end of this year. Call 648-6222.
Golf tourney begins Thursday
Links For Life Golf Tournament, a charity nonprofit tournament created by Colliers International and co-sponsored by Del Webb Corp., begins 1 p.m. Thursday with a shotgun start at the Anthem Country Club, 25 Anthem Club Drive, Henderson.
A dinner and an auction of goods and services donated by local businesses will follow the golf tournament. The proceeds of this year's tournament and auction will be donated to Child Haven of Southern Nevada. For more information, call Beth Mundo at 735-5700.
