EDMONTON, Alberta -- Manager Rick Sofield and the rest of the Las Vegas 51s can relax a little now.
No matter what happens in tonight's series finale with the Edmonton Trappers here at Telus Field, the 51s will fly home to Las Vegas on Tuesday morning knowing they averted the indiginity of going 0-for-Canada on their current eight-game road trip.
The 51s (11-18), who were swept by Calgary in four games to start the sojourn and own the worst record in the Pacific Coast League, snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 6-2 victory over the Trappers (14-16) on Sunday afternoon.
Left-hander Jeff Williams (2-1), making his first start in two weeks after going on the disabled list with a groin injury, allowed just one hit and one run in five innings to pick up the win for the 51s.
Catcher Geronimo Gil had three hits and two RBIs, including his first home run of the season, and shortstop Jeff Branson added two hits to lead Las Vegas offensively.
The two teams conclude their series tonight at 6:05 with left-hander Matt Whisenant (0-3) starting for Las Vegas, opposed by right-hander Mike Oquist (1-3).
