Joe Delaney remembers 1993: Iglesias at Caesars
Friday, May 4, 2001 | 9:15 a.m.
Julio Iglesias had sold millions of single records and albums worldwide and ranked in the Top 10 of all-time best-selling artists before making his Las Vegas debut in the Caesars Palace Circus Maximus in February 1986. That first audience was 95 percent Spanish-speaking. He was back twice more that year. By 1993 the numbers were nearly reversed, with more English speakers than Spanish speakers in the audience. His recording duet with Willie Nelson on "To All The Girls I've Loved Before" was a major breakthrough in this country. Iglesias continued to be a Caesars regular until the Circus Maximus was closed in 2000. He has yet to make an extended commitment at another Las Vegas hotel-casino.
