Home-invasion ‘predator’ sought

Friday, May 4, 2001 | 11:03 a.m.

Area police are searching for an armed man suspected in more than 20 home-invasion robberies in the past six months in Henderson and Las Vegas.

Since Oct. 5 there have been 21 incidents in which this man is suspected of sticking a gun into someone's face and forcing him into his house or sneaking into the home and then confronting the resident. The last time was Saturday.

"We have a predator out there," said Lt. John Alamshaw, head of Metro Police's robbery unit.

The robber is not just a criminal of opportunity, just happening upon his victims. He is believed to be driving around neighborhoods, scouting out his escape route and then searching for his victims, Alamshaw said.

He has robbed people in their homes in the area of Warm Springs Road and Eastern Avenue, Russell and Pecos roads and other neighborhoods. Alamshaw warned residents that just because they live in a gated community doesn't mean they are immune to the robber.

The robber either enters a home through an open sliding glass door or through the door leading into the house from the garage. He also has approached residents as they are in their garage or standing in their yards.

The robber takes whatever cash he can find and flees. He has not injured any of the victims, Alamshaw said.

"Obviously anyone who sticks a gun into someone's face and robs them should be considered armed and dangerous."

Anyone with information is asked to call Metro at 229-3591 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
