Six students win competition
Six area fifth graders will compete Saturday in the state poster contest for Tar Wars, a national anti-tobacco education program.
The students, who created posters that express the positive effects of not smoking, can win a chance to enter the national contest in Washington, D.C., in July.
Local poster winners are: Brittany Edmison of M.J. Christensen Elementary, Sha Drena Simon of Ronzone Elementary School, Kate Sukeyasu of Frank Kim Elementary, Kelly Crossley and Jordan Kopf of the Meadows School and Meghan Haines of St. Viator School.

Applicants will be judged on creativity, presentation, project impact and learning enrichment.
Application packets will be distributed to school principals this week or may be picked up at the Junior League office, 461 S. Decatur Blvd., Las Vegas. Completed entries must be received by July 31. For more information, call 822-6536.
