Festival scheduled at Sammy Davis Plaza
The Las Vegas Israel Independence Day Festival will observe Israel's 53rd birthday in a celebration 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday at the Sammy Davis Jr. Festival Plaza in Lorenzi Park.
The event will include food and Judaica vendors, children's activities and booths sponsored by Jewish organizations.
Speakers will include representatives of the Jewish National Fund and Israeli Consulate. For more information, call 794-0090.
Galleria at Sunset to host weekend event
Galleria at Sunset is hosting the annual Wonderful World of Women Expo Friday through Sunday throughout the mall.
Galleria will present a variety of exhibitors tailored to meet the needs of women from all walks of life. Among the exhibitors participating will be health and fitness advisers, interior decorators, financial planners and beauty consultants.

Entertainment planned in park on Saturday
Summerlin is commemorating its status as America's best-selling master-planned community for eight of the last nine years with the Summerlin No. 1 Celebration 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at Willow Park.
Many entertaining attractions are planned, including an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for largest group hug and a drawing to win more than $5,000 in prizes.
Also included will be two former Cirque du Soleil performers, a Japanese acrobat, stilt walkers, clowns, face painters and the swinging sounds of Jump Jive N'Wail. For more information, call 791-4412.
Restaurants will offer their best creations
The best restaurants in the western part of the Las Vegas Valley will serve up their tastiest fare 6-9 p.m. Monday at Canyon Country Club for the inaugural Taste of the West.
The event is open to the public. More than a dozen restaurants located west of the Strip are already scheduled to participate, with more expected.
Proceeds from Taste of the West will help support Candlelighters of Southern Nevada, a nonprofit support group for families of children with cancer.
Tickets to Taste of the West are $25 each and must be reserved in advance using MasterCard or Visa. For reservations or more information, call 363-0303.
The seventh annual Henderson DARE Day
will be Saturday at the Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road. The Henderson Parks and Recreation Fun Buses will be at designated stops to transport students to and from Black Mountain Recreation Center.
The First Congregational Church
will hold its 35th annual "Attic Sale" beginning 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday. A large selection of used clothing, housewares, appliances, toys and baked goods will be available. For more information, call Don at 734-1887.
The Boulder City Chamber of Commerce
will sponsor its 23rd annual Spring Jamboree at 8 a.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday in and around the Bicentennial Park area, which is just off Nevada Highway and Colorado Street in Boulder City. Call 293-2034.
