Allen Ruter, the vice president of finance and administration at the Community College of Southern Nevada, died of a heart attack Monday in Henderson. He was 52.
Ruter was at the college for four years, where he was in charge of budgets, construction and maintenance. Ruter was known by colleagues as someone who cared deeply about the college and his family.
"Those were the two most important things in his life," said Helen Clougherty, special assistant to the president.
Ruter is also remembered as an avid baseball fan. He attended every night and weekend game of CCSN's Coyote team. The school plans to dedicate a bench after him.
Ruter is survived by his wife Judith R. Ruter, two sons Joshua and Jed Ruter as well as two stepsons Matt and Scott Hartung. Memorial services for Ruter will be held 7 p.m. Thursday at the University United Methodist Church.
