Letter: Utilities have friend in Guinn
Friday, March 30, 2001 | 3:30 a.m.
Our Republican governor is telling us his friends at Nevada Power can count on his help. That's what friends are for, right governor?
The governor told the Nevada Legislature that he wants the state's electric utilities to recover full costs when buying high-priced fuel. What's with this guy! Rather than abiding by the current agreement, which provides for partial recovery, our leader in Carson City wants them to get it all. Wish I owned an electric utility in Nevada and had a pal like Guinn. Whose interests is the governor taking care of: his pals or Nevada citizens?
Come on governor, what has Walter Higgins, the chief executive of Nevada Power, done for the people of Nevada lately. That's right, he's raised our electricity rates again, again, again and isn't done yet ... then he tells us solar power is too costly.
Sorry, Governor Guinn and Walter Higgins, the people of Nevada are not fools.
