The former principal of a Las Vegas Christian school was sentenced to three years in prison Tuesday for having sexual relations with one of his students over a three-year period.
Brent A. Fleshman, 31, will have to serve at least one year in prison before becoming eligible for parole.
Fleshman pleaded guilty in December to three counts of sexual misconduct and one count of open or gross lewdness.
According to police, Fleshman was arrested in October after a 17-year-old girl told police she had been having a sexual relationship with Fleshman since July 1997.
Fleshman was a principal, teacher and youth director at the Gateway Christian Academy, which is run by the Gateway Baptist Church.
Legislators passed a law in 1997 that makes it a crime for any teacher to have sex with a student -- even if the student is 16 or older, the age of consent.
