Direct-mail firms merge

Two direct-mail companies competing in Las Vegas have merged to form an operation with 80 full- and part-time positions capable of processing 7 million pieces of mail each month.

EMS Direct and ZIP Direct have joined to form ZIP Direct Las Vegas in a deal valued at more than $1 million.

The new company plans to improve its technological capabilities and will expand markets and services, adding about five new jobs.

EMS Direct, which began operations less than three years with two employees working out of a garage, grew to 65 employees handling 3 million pieces of mail, producing annual revenues of $9 million. ZIP Direct also has offices in Los Angeles, San Diego and Sacramento, Calif.; Phoenix; and Kansas City, Mo.
