Letter: Reader responds to last ‘notch baby’ criticism
Tuesday, March 27, 2001 | 10 a.m.
I don't expect my government to support me. All I want is a little justice, and this is a travesty. If members of Congress have all those trillions in excess, why can't they take care of this matter? Of course if they wait a few more years we'll all be dead. Right? My husband served his country honorably for 4 1/2 years, and this is the thanks we get? If they want to even it out, lower the benefits of the overpaid, and then you'll really hear some gripes.
Ask Maddox about this. Remember, there are a lot of seniors who are affected by this inequity and we all vote. Please, all you voters out there born between 1917 and 1926, write to your senators about this. Maybe we'll get some action.
I'd also like to say a few words about Harold Deets, executive director of the AARP. That organization is the biggest rip-off yet. It is really lining its pockets. All the things it says it can do for us, we can do on our own. I called it to compare my car insurance and it wanted twice as much. I would like to inform all of you "notch babies" that Deets and the AARP are lobbying in Washington against our reform bill. I wouldn't take its membership if it was free. Thank you for listening.
