Postcard from Anaheim, Calif.: No more bets! (Yeah, right)

Monday, March 26, 2001 | 9:05 a.m.

Editor's note: Sun basketball writer Steve Addy will be filing daily postcards from NCAA Tournament sites.

So long, Anaheim ...

As a public service, it's my duty to remind the decent folks of Las Vegas that the NCAA doesn't want you placing any bets on the Final Four this week.

The NCAA campaign to stamp out college sports wagering was on full display at the West Regional at the Arrowhead Pond.

As every team entered its respective locker room, it was confronted by a large, colorful poster reading, "Don't Bet On It!" The poster outlined various penalties players face if they bet on games or shave points. A phone number for compulsive gamblers was also prominent.

The real fullcourt press begins at the Final Four. The NCAA plans to stage events in support of the betting ban. Consider yourself warned.

Now, everybody, place your bets, place your bets!

On to Minneapolis, Addy
