Vegas passenger counts up 3.2% in February

The number of passengers arriving and departing from McCarran International Airport was up 3.2 percent in February, the Las Vegas airport announced.

McCarran reported 2.92 million people used the airport that month, compared with 2.82 million in February 2000. For the year, passenger counts are up 5.1 percent over 2000 levels.

The two busiest carriers at McCarran, Dallas-based Southwest Airlines and America West Airlines, Phoenix, contributed the large increases for the month, with Southwest's levels up 10 percent to 868,027 passengers and America West up 40 percent to 525,956 passengers.

No. 3 United Airlines and No. 4 Delta Air Lines reported downturns for the month, with United down 10.7 percent to 243,544 passengers and Delta, which has discontinued six night flights, down 18 percent to 182,259.
