Male athlete of the week:
JAKE DITTLER
School: Green Valley
Class: Senior
Sport: Baseball
Last week: Dittler, a 6-4 right-hander, tossed a complete-game one-hitter to lead the Gators to a 7-0 victory over then-No. 3 Durango last Tuesday. Dittler, a Cal-State Northridge signee, retired the first 10 batters he faced, striking out nine Trailblazers and walking two. "His offspeed stuff was on, and he was running his fastball up to 91-92," Green Valley coach Nick Garritano said. "He was spotting his pitches pretty good, and our defense played a great game behind him."
Female athlete of the week:
AMY SAUER
School: Centennial
Class: Junior
Sport: Softball
Last week: The Bulldogs' ace helped her team to a 7-1 victory over Eldorado last Thursday, tossing a complete-game three-hitter in a matchup of 2000 state qualifiers. Sauer struck out 10 batters and walked just one, helping Centennial stay undefeated this season. "She was pretty untouchable," Bulldogs coach Cyndi Parus said. "Eldorado is such a great team, she should be really proud of herself, especially to be able to do that this early in the season."
