Las Vegas area fishing report

LAKE MEAD: Even though boaters have been locating large schools of striped bass in the Boulder Basin and Overton Arm, the fishing success has been below par as the fish have not been taking bait.

The Nevada Division of Wildlife suggests that the best method for catching the fish is to entice them into feeding. Once a school is located, anglers can stimulate the fish to feed by chumming liberally with anchovies or sardines.

Some of the better action for stripers has been taking place in Las Vegas Bay. Live shad being netted in that area is the best bait for catching the fish.

Schools of stripers have been seen at the Meadows and the Meat Hole in the Overton Arm, but anglers have had difficulty in catching fish in those areas.

Largemouth bass are in the coves and fishing has been fair for boaters who are casting artificial worms and jigs to the fish.

LAKE MOHAVE: Very heavy fishing pressure is being found after the weekly rainbow trout plants at Willow Beach. This week's plant was scheduled for today.

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR: The lake should be substantially free of ice by the weekend.
