Vegetarian food subject of workshop
The Whitney Ranch Recreation Center is offering participants the opportunity to explore Mexican-style vegetarian cooking in a two-hour workshop scheduled 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The recreation center is at 1575 Galleria Drive, Henderson. Participation is $35 per person, which includes recipes and a complete meal.
The workshop is part of the Henderson Parks and Recreation Department's "Vegetarian Cooking for the Family" series, which is designed to help individuals develop a flair for vegetarian cuisine. For more information, call 450-5885.
Recreation center plans big event
A giant garage sale will be hosted 7 a.m.-noon March 31 at the Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road.
Those wishing to sell items may reserve their own 10-foot-by-10-foot space for $10 each.
Merchandise offered for sale may include everything from toys and comic books to tools and household items. However, all items must be second hand. For more information, call 565-2880.
SCORE counselors will offer help
The Las Vegas Chapter of Service Corps of Retired Executives will present its next "How To Really Start Your Own Business" workshop at 9 a.m. Monday in the Foley Federal Building, 300 Las Vegas Blvd. South, Suite 1100.
SCORE counselors will cover marketing, cash flow, the business plan and a checklist for licensing, permits and other requirements.
The $45 cost also includes a 292-page reference manual and a workbook to help analyze a business idea. For directions, more information or to pre-register, call 388-6104.
Public invited to tree planting
A public groundbreaking and initial tree planting will began 10 a.m. Saturday at Winchester Park, 3130 S. McLeod Drive.
County Commissioner Myrna Williams and other dignitaries will be on hand to launch this three-month-long "Garden-in-Progress" project. The projected date for the garden's grand opening is June 2.

A spring sale event
will be from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at 5910 Sheila Ave. The Garden Club members and other nonprofits will be offering over 18,000 plants this year. Experts will answer gardening questions. For more information, call 658-7585.
The third annual "Employ-Ability" job fair
will be 10 a.m.-3 p.m. March 29 at Community College of Southern Nevada, 6375 W. Charleston Blvd. During the fair, employers from throughout the Las Vegas Valley are will be accepting applications and some will be conducting on-the-spot interviews. For more information, call 486-5230.
