Two groups joining forces to find some order in chaos

Tuesday, March 20, 2001 | 10:53 a.m.

Programs featuring multiple experts talking at once, each trying to shout down the other, rarely educate about anything -- except that comprehension cannot exist without order.

Two local groups affiliated with International Training in Communication are teaming March 31 to present a seminar on how to achieve order during meetings even if all present have distinct views and ardently need to express them.

The Silver Key Club and the Vegas Valley Club, affiliated with ITC, hold a seminar every year during which the rules of parliamentary procedure are reviewed. The seminars are useful to all who belong to any group, governmental or social, that regularly conducts business during formal meetings.

This year's seminar is March 31 and begins with registration at 8 a.m. It will be held at the West Charleston campus of Community College of Southern Nevada in Building C, Rooms 277 and 278.

Participants will have a choice of attending either the basic class or the advanced class. Certificates of completion will be issued at the close of the seminar to all who attended.

Four instructors will teach a practical way to apply Roberts Rules of Order. The goal of all meetings, the instructors say, is to "accomplish the greatest amount of business in the shortest possible time while protecting the rights of all members.'

Prepaid registration is $45. Registration at the door is $55.
