Explanations of benefits scheduled

Detailed explanations of the full range of benefits available to disabled veterans and their families will be presented at Disabled American Veterans meetings.

An on-site counseling and claim filing assistance program will be hosted by the Black Mountain Chapter 11 from 10 a.m to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Masonic Lodge, 480 Greenway Road in Henderson and by the Las Vegas Chapter 11, Sunrise Mountain Chapter 13 and Thunderbird Chapter 34 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the VAMC Outpatient Clinic, 1700 Vegas Drive.

Veterans and members of their families need not be DAV or DAV Auxiliary members to take advantage of this free DAV service. They should bring their Department of Veterans Affairs claim and Social Security numbers and any other pertinent documentation to the DAV Mobile Service Office location. Group to honor clients, members

Goodwill of Southern Nevada will honor clients and members of the community during its "Believe in the Power of Goodwill" community recognition reception 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Imperial Palace.

Goodwill will honor recognition recipients including the graduate of the year, Matthew J. Brooks, and the achiever of the year, Robert Alderman.

Goodwill of Southern Nevada is a not-for-profit service for people with disabilities and other special needs to maximize the quality of life of each individual served. For more information, call 433-4331.

United Blood Services, 6930 W. Charleston Blvd., has scheduled blood drives at these locations this week:

Wednesday, 2-7 p.m. at Bryan Elementary School, 8050 Cielo Vista Lane.

Thursday, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at Nevada Federal Credit Union, 2645 S. Mojave Road, and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Army 6th Recruiting Brigade, 4539 N. 5th St.

Friday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Four Seasons, 3950 Las Vegas Blvd. South, and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at IGT, 1085 Palms Airport.

Saturday, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at LDS Red Rock Stake Center, 221 Lorenzi St.

Assisted living center will host reception

In partnership with the Nevada Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, EPOCH Assisted Living of Las Vegas is hosting a reception to honor area social workers 4-7 p.m. Thursday at 8720 W. Flamingo Road.

Wine, cheese and other hors d'oeuvres will be served. Musical entertainment will be provided. All area social workers are encouraged to attend.
