Nolan back in Legislature after federal interview

Monday, March 19, 2001 | 10:37 a.m.

CARSON CITY -- Assemblyman Dennis Nolan, R-Las Vegas, says it will be two to four weeks before he knows if he has been selected to head the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

Nolan said he was interviewed three times last week in Washington, and the finalist list for assistant secretary of labor over OSHA is down to six people, from 24 applicants.

"You never know how well you do," he said.

If selected, Nolan said he would not start for three to four months, which would allow him to complete the present session of the Legislature.

He said he met with the director of the transition team between the White House and the Department of Labor, the chief of staff for Labor Secretary Elaine Chao and Ed Moy, director of the presidential personnel office at the White House.

Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., nominated Nolan for the position. Nolan also received support from other members of the Nevada congressional delegation.

He is presently corporate director of safety and loss prevention of American Transportation Cos., which operate bus and other transportation services in more than 30 cities, including Las Vegas.
