Nevada Power files new rate hike request
Friday, March 16, 2001 | 11:06 a.m.
On the heels of a 17 percent increase, Nevada Power Co. has filed an application with the state Public Utilities Commission to boost customer rates for its 607,000 customers by another 1.48 percent.
This, the latest in monthly filings since last summer, is an effort by the utility to recover rising fuel costs. This increase would go into effect May 1 and equates to an extra $1.26 a month for a homeowner who uses 1,100 kilowatts.
If the latest increase is enacted, average rates for a residential customer in Clark County will have risen from $74.77 to $100.43, a 34 percent increase since last summer.
The application, filed Thursday, would boost Nevada Power revenue by $19.2 million over the next year.
