Friday, March 16, 2001 | 11:52 a.m.
The BLM auction will be on May 9. Registration is at 8:30 a.m.
The auction will begin at 10 a.m., and 26 small parcels will be sold. Bidding on the large parcel will begin at 2 p.m. Both will be in the commission chambers of the Clark County Government Center on Grand Central Parkway.
Starting bid for the 1,905 acre parcel will be $40 million.
The land up for auction is part of a 7,500-acre block of public land designated for disposal under the Southern Nevada Public Land Managment Act of 1998.
Most of the proceeds from the auction go to a special account to purchase environmentally sensitive lands and improve existing recreational areas in the state, while 5 percent of each sale goes to the Nevada State School Trust Fund and 10 percent to the Southern Nevada Water Authority.
